Service Learning
Service learning is an exciting and integral component of the Middle School program at CHA. Students apply the values of chesed and menschlichkeit that were instilled in them throughout the Lower School years to develop, plan and execute service projects of their own design. The service learning program is a three year experience that widens in focus as students create projects for their school campus in sixth grade, the San Diego community in seventh grade, and the world in eighth grade. The final project completed in eighth grade challenges individual students to engage in the design thinking process to identify a need which they are passionate about, conduct interviews, write a proposal, and finally build a product of their own design which addresses the need. These projects are exhibited at the end of the year for students, parents and community members.
