Admissions – FAQ

Is CHA accredited?
Yes, we have received a six year accreditation, the highest level awarded by WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges).

Do you have to affiliate with Chabad to attend CHA?
No, you don’t have to be affiliated with Chabad or any particular Jewish denomination or synagogue to attend CHA. All branches of Judaism are respected and valued.

Do you need to be Jewish to attend CHA?
CHA does not discriminate based on religion, race, color or creed. Our mission is to inspire the Jewish leaders of tomorrow who will give of themselves passionately and better the the world around them.

What ages/grades do you serve?
Chabad Hebrew Academy is a community serving children from infants, starting at 6 weeks of age, through the Eighth Grade.

What are the school hours?
School hours for grades K-8 are 8:00 am – 3:30 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and 8:00 am – 2:30 pm on Fridays. Holiday/Special start and end times are published on the school calendar. Flexible scheduling is available in the Preschool. Aftercare is available school wide.

How involved are parents?
We encourage and welcome parents to take an active part in their children’s lives by volunteering at CHA. Many parents participate in activities at school on a regular basis. CHA has an active PTO (Parent/Teacher Organization) and a variety of committees with parent volunteers. Additional opportunities include: volunteering in the classroom, field trip chaperones, special events and holiday celebrations.

What enrichment programs do you offer?
Students enjoy weekly art, music, science and PE three times a week. In Middle School students can choose from an array of additional electives including STEM/robotics, drama, studio art, yearbook and more. In addition, all Middle School students are involved in our Service Learning program.

Do you have before or after-care?
Children may be dropped off at 7:45 am. After-care in is available until 5:30 pm M-TH and 4:40 on Fridays.

What sports do you offer?
We are members of the IMSL (Intermediate Middle School League), and we field teams to compete during each season. Our sports offerings include: flag football, girls’ volleyball, cross country (co-ed), boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, and track and field.

Do you offer Financial Aid and if so how do we apply?
Yes, Financial Aid is available to qualifying applicants. For more information, please see “Affordability” under the Admissions tab.

Do you have a hot lunch program?
Students may either bring their lunch or purchase a lunch from our hot lunch program. Please note, we are a kosher campus; meat may not be brought onto campus. However, our hot lunch program serves kosher meat meals several days per week.

Do you have transportation?
Yes, our school bus offers transportation from points in Carmel Valley and La Jolla. There is an additional fee for transportation, and space is limited.

Do you have school uniforms?
Yes, starting in Kindergarten students are required to wear uniforms. Collared shirts in white, burgundy or navy are acceptable. Girls must wear skirts or dresses to the knee in tan or navy. Boys may wear slacks or shorts in tan or navy. Burgundy shirts with the school logo are worn on Spirit Days and to all field trips.

Do you offer services for students with special needs?
Yes. Our Learning Lab offers support to students who struggle in class and need extra support.

How big are your classes?
We maintain low teacher to child ratios in our Preschool, meeting or exceeding state licensing requirements. Our ratio in the Lower School (K-5) and Middle School is 7:1.
